About us

FROM IMAGINE TO ANCHOR BAY

Prior to becoming Anchor Bay Entertainment, Imagine Entertainment was an all rights Independent distributor of motion picture and television product in the territories of Australia and New Zealand. Established in late 2001, Imagine achieved a great deal in its first 4 years of operation.

Theatrical successes include DONNIE DARKO and BIGGIE & TUPAC. Followed by the Australian horror/comedy UNDEAD, winner of the FIPRESCI award at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

On the Imagine DVD/video rental label high concept genre pictures, such as ARACHNID, NAKED WEAPON, BONE SNATCHER, CRIME SPREE, INTERSTATE 60, ROMASANTA and NATIONAL LAMPOON’S GOLD DIGGERS all performed well in the National rental charts. Imagine was awarded Independent rental title of the year for DONNIE DARKO at the 2003 Australian Video Awards and the Australian picture, UNDEAD was voted RENTAL TITLE OF THE YEAR by an Independent at the 2004 Video Industry Awards.

At retail level, Imagine launched the prime time hit crime series C.S.I. CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION as a triple DVD and VHS box set supported by television advertising. The 3D animated INSPECTOR GADGET feature and POPEYE (for the first time in CGI) were the launch titles for the new Kid Tuff (hard coated) DVD label. Imagine was sold on December 1, 2005 and is now proudly the Australian entity of ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT.

Since then our theatrical release of BEYOND THE SEA has achieved a box office of over $1 million in limited release, opening in July 2006 and we continue with two-three DVD rental releases each month. The real growth focus for Anchor Bay is now firmly aimed at the retail market.

TV ON DVD releases include CSI, CSI: MIAMI, CSI: NY, the UK comedy series DOC MARTIN and the cult TV Series 21JUMP STREET and GREATEST AMERICAN HERO.

The Anchor Bay Entertainment US acquisition of long awaited EDDIE MURPHY DELIRIOUS on DVD was released in Australia in March 2007.
